Description

The report was commissioned by REG Windpower in connection with a proposal for a wind farm on a 70 ha site lying on open chalk downland to the north east of Winterborne Whitechurch. The area in the vicinity of the site contained numerous archaeological and historical features although there were none in the site itself. Usually but not exclusively showing as cropmarks, these included a number of enclosures, 'celtic' field systems, barrows and ring ditches. There were a number of find spots and a 18th to early 19th century milestone. A large irregular enclosure shaped like an oaktree was identified. A geophysical survey was carried out following the desk based research which provided further information.
