Description
The survey was commissioned by Oxford Archaeology on behalf of Eco Sustainable Solutions in relation to a proposed solar park. There were two adjacent sites, 6.7ha at Woodtown and 7.8ha at Hale, currently divided into horse paddocks. A 1m fluxgate gradiometer survey was carried out in small grids because of the in situ fencing. At the westerly Woodtown section of the site there were few definite archaeological features and those that were clearest were likely to be plough markings and a land drain. At the easterly Hale section which comprised two fields, the coverage of the fields by green waste affected the readings. There may however have been an infilled pond or pit. There were also pipes visible and an extant trackway.
