Description
A desk-based assessment was carried out on behalf of Chesters Commercial in relation to a proposed residential development. An inspection was carried out to assess current land usage and consider the archaeological potential. The site covered c. 2.77 ha of agricultural land. There were no designated heritage assets within the application area and 24 in the broader study area, mostly listed buildings. There was one scheduled monument, a Roman villa surviving as sub-surface deposits however the proposed development would have no impact on this. The core of the village was a designated Conservation Area however the proposed development would again have no impact. There would be minor changes to the view and setting of the Grade II listed bulding, Vale Cottage. The site had been in agricultural use since the post-medieval period and possibly medieval also. There was low potential for unrecorded archaeological features.
