EDO6445 - Leigh Road School, Wimborne Minster; evaluation 2017

The archaeological evaluation of a 3.8 ha parcel of land proposed for residential development. Eleven trenches, each measuring 30m by 1.6m, were excavated by machine; the trenches were positioned to investigate geophysical anomalies from a preceding survey. Three archaeological features were identified, and two natural features within which artefacts had accumulated. Pottery found on the site indicated a range of activity from Bronze Age to the medieval period, but was heavily abraded and therefore likely to be residual but nevertheless indicating activity nearby. There was also struck and burnt unworked flint. Only one archaeological feature, a shallow gully, contained dateable material but this was also highly abraded pottery.
