Description
An archaeological evaluation comprising the excavation by machine of five trenches 1.9m wide and 110m in length overall, equivalent to a 2% sample of the site. The trenches revealed a shallow topsoil directly overlying natural clay. Field drains were seen across the site, and evidence of other subsoil features was found only in one trench (Trench 3) where a linear feature was recorded. This feature was around 0.4m wide and it was aligned roughly NE-SW. The filling was composed of yellowish-brown silty clay with sparse small gravels and contained a small quantity of post-medieval pottery. It was interpreted as a probable drainage channel.
