Description

Observations and recording during digging of five test pits to test ground conditions for construction of a proposed biomass heating system. Test Pit 2 revealed a wall, visible elsewhere as a linear ridge in the ground and of similar construction to extant garden walls, which was interpreted as a former garden wall forming a small close between the church and Garden Cottage. Test Pits 3 and 4 revealed a silty clay deposit up to a metre thick, interpreted as an alluvial or possibly colluvial deposit, perhaps an indicator of a former pond.
