Description
The assessment was commissioned by Good Energy in connection with proposed development of a solar park on the site. The study area consisted of the site and a 1km buffer around it. The assessment considered the heritage assets of the site, historic environment data on non-designated assets inter alia and a site visit was carried out. In summary, there were no designated heritage assets within the site area. There were five scheduled monuments and 55 listed buildings and an area of ancient woodland within the wider study area. In terms of non-designated or potential assets, the line of the former Bovington Camp military railway lay in the south-western part of the site although no elements survived. A limited range of assets was present in the study area including find-spots, the line of a prehistoric earthwork and remains of medieval settlement in Wool. Previous archaeological investigations had taken place at Bindon Abbey 800m away and in the centre of Wool. The report concluded that the proposed development would not adversely affect the setting of the designated assets. It was unlikely that any unrecorded remains were of sufficient importance to warrant preservation in situ or to affect the development proposals.
