Description

The assessment was commissioned by Camborne Energy Ltd prior to development of the site as a solar farm. The site comprised two large fields used for arable agriculture. This and a wider 500m study area was assessed. 13 Scheduled Monuments representing 20 burial mounds were located in the study area with one in the western field of the site and a second on the north-west boundary. Hedgebanks demarcating the north-western and north-eastern site boundaries were protected by the 1997 Hedgerow Regulations. A further range of heritage assets were represented in the study area including burial mounds and field systems. The report recommended that the two scheduled monuments were taken outside the proposed site boundary, including a buffer zone. The potential for below-ground archaeological remains on the site was high, for example possible Bronze Age round barrows, part of a prehistoric/Romano-British field system. Further investigation was recommended. It was suggested that a detailed assessment of the effects of the development on the settings of the Scheduled Monuments might be required.
