Description
Excavation and watching brief was undertaken to the north of Manor Farm and the Pimperne pumping Station, as part of the Wessex Water Corfe Mullen to Salisbury water transfer scheme archaeological mitigation.
A series of Bronze Age and undated features were found. These included a range of reused tree throw/root bole pit features, which have been utilised as either rubbish pits or pits containing deposited items. A large circular feature, possibly a potential sink hole, was examined, with finds from the lower fills suggesting this feature was open during the Bronze Age. Towards the northern end of the site two groups of rectilinear gullies were located either side of an infilled coombe. Although these are undated, there is a possibility that these could relate to early Bronze Age/Neolithic activity identified immediately to the north.
