Description
An excavation was undertaken at Sturminster Marshall Water Treatment Works as part of the Wessex Water Corfe Mullen to Salisbury water transfer scheme archaeological mitigation. The site lies on river terrace gravels underlying brown earths of the Frilsham Association. Subsoils comprised alluvial deposits, and were present up to 400mm in depth. No archaeological features were revealed. The soil sequence appears to relate to an undated sequence of flood deposits.
A small quantity of finds including worked flint, Bronze Age, Late Iron Age and medieval pottery was recovered from the subsoil.
