Description

Detailed gradiometer survey of an area of 22 hectares spread over ten arable fields, a continuation of survey carried out in 2010 of the survey site plus land to the east. This earlier survey concluded that there was low to moderate potential for recovering remains relating to Romano-British, medieval or post-medieval activity. The detailed gradiometer survey revealed several anomalies of definite, probable and possible archaeological origin. In particular, survey data from the northernmost field indicated a number of features of potential archaeological origin, including two parallel ditch-like features, and an old field boundary alongside a possible palaeochannel and agricultural features. Evidence of an early 19th-century kiln was also present. Anomalies across the rest of the site indicated several other possible archaeological features and four modern services.
