EDO6221 - The Fountain, 1-3 High Street, Christchurch; evaluation 2014

An archaeological evaluation comprising the excavation by machine of three trenches, each measuring 1m by 3m. Archaeological features and deposits were encountered in all three trenches. Two linear features were interpreted as intercutting boundary ditches forming the boundary between 3 and 5 High Street. Two large features were only partically exposed, and it could not be determined whether they were pits or ditches. A smaller feature, also partially exposed, was considered most likely to be a pit. There appeared to be high potential for significant archaeological deposits and features to be present within the proposed development area.
