Description

Geophysical survey of a site proposed for development revealed a series of very strong ditch type anomalies with clear archaeological potential and with very similar responses, suggesting that they are related. Two probable archaeological features of particular interest were an isolated 80m length of ditch with a distinct curve at the eastern end, and a rectilinear ditch forming two sides of what could be an enclosure with a break on the southern side suggesting a possible entrance way. A series of strong anomalies immediately to the north were interpreted as probable pits potentially containing burnt or fired material. Weak linear anomalies were also recorded; these too of probable archaeological interest, possibly field boundaries. A number of faint pit-like anomalies were detected across the site.
