Description

Evaluation comprising the excavaton by machine of three trenches 1.5m wide and 25m, 15m and 14m long. No archaeological features were found but a layer containing late prehistoric pottery, worked flint, burnt flint and shells was encountered in Trench 2. It appeared to be a spread of material rather than a cut feature, and was interpreted as probably the remains of a midden or other domestic refuse, and indicating activity in the area in the late Iron Age/early Roman period. The other trenches showed modern ground disturbance, with quantities of brick and modern building rubble.
