Description

Observations and recording during excavations associated with a new sewer diversion, commissioned by Wessex Water and undertaken during the summer of 2003. No evidence for archaeological activity was revealed apart from a concentration of archaeological features and layers adjacent to allotments about midway along the route. Most of these were seen after topsoil stripping, and were investigated and recorded in advance of trench excavations. However, some features were located against the trench edge and recorded in section only. There were two distinct clusters of activity, comprising a group of Iron Age pits to the west, and a series of post-holes and a midden deposit to the east.
