Description

Dendrochronological analysis of timbers obtained from the roof following a fire in June 2015. Twenty five core samples were obtained from the main range roof, of which 23 were analysed, producing a single dated site chronology comprising 15 samples with an overall length of 161 rings dated as spanning the years AD 1379 to 1539. Sapwood on the dated samples, which represented the entire length of the roof, were interpreted as representing a single phase of construction, the timbers probably coming from a single episode of felling at some point in the mid 1550s. Eight measured but ungrouped samples remain undated.
