Description

Observations and recording during the digging of geotechnical test pits to assess the depth and nature of limestone deposits prior to submission of a planning application to conduct stone quarrying and extraction. Six pits were dug in the northern part of Home Field. No archaeologically significant features or deposits were observed. In each pit topsoil was seen to a depth of around 0.3m above natural deposits of clay. In the central part of the proposed quarry area a roughly circular hollow was recorded, and interpreted as the probable remains of a bomb crater.
