Description
Detailed gradiometer survey commissioned to investigate the presence and nature of detectable archaeological features of a site proposed for development. It was possible to survey only 6.4ha of the 7.5ha site, part of it being overgrown and unsurveyable. Survey revealed a few anomalies of possible archaeological origin, some areas of increased magnetic response, and several modern services. Most anomalies were interpreted as likely to relate to agricultural activity, with at least two phases of ploughing scars and weak linear trends that may relate to divisions on the 1844 Fordington tithe map. Other small anomalies were thought possibly to represent pits or postholes, though a geological origin could not be ruled out.
