Description
Three evaluation trenches excavated by machine using a toothless bucket under archaeological supervision. Trench 1 measured 6.2m by 1.8m at the base, Trench 2 measured 4.9m by 1.7m, and Trench 3 2.5m by 2m. Trenches 1 and 2 were machined into the top of natural subsoil, a brown clay. Trench 3 was machined to the surface of pathways around an area known formerly to be a sunken garden. No material of pre-modern date was present.
