Description

Seventeen trial trenches, each 30m by 2m, were excavated across the proposed development site. They were located to target possible archaeological features identified by geophysical survey, including a large enclosure and related features such as pits on the south-east side of the site. The archaeological evidence did not entirely coincide with the geophysical survey results, with eight of the trenches being negative and limited archaeological remains being found in the rest. Two trenches in the south-eastern corner of the site produced convincing evidence of occupation, but no clear dating evidence. The evaluation results suggested several phases of agricultural activity across the site, with field boundaries and lynchets.
