Description

Observations and recording in advance of construction of a new link road for tank training. The area of the link road, comprising an area 234m by 11m was machine excavated under archaeological supervision using an excavator fitted with a toothless bucket. Machine excavation was to the top of the first archaeologically-significant layers or the impact level of the link road, whichever was encountered first. Depth was between 0.48 and 0.6m below ground level; topsoil overlay a fine grained dark yellow-brown sand, over a coarse grained light yellow-brown sand. No remains of archaeological significance were observed.
