Description

Observations and recording during stripping of topsoil from an area of grass at the entrance to the former farmyard, to form a new gravelled area. Natural mid-reddish brown clay was exposed at a depth of 0.25-0.38m below ground level. The remains of a concrete footing were exposed within topsoil against the north east wall of the stable; probably the remains of a foundation for an oil or diesel tank. Clearance of overburden from the line of a new retaining wall revealed layers of clay and metalling on top of the natural clay. No archaeological features were noted.
