Description

An evaluation comprising the excavation of 18 trenches, each measuring approximately 30m by 1.8m, and all were located within the area of the proposed development. The trenches were excavated by machine with a toothless grading bucket. A number of mostly flat-based ditches were revealed, and interpreted as representing a former field system and modification of natural water courses to drain the site. These features were thought to be of medieval to Victorian date, and most likely relating to use after the establishment of Holmwood House and associated park in the 19th century.
