Description
Observation and recording during works commissioned by Wessex Water plc did not take place, owing to a breakdown in communication. Subsequently, COAS visited the development site and where the pipeline crossed adjacent fields. Heavy concentrations of post-medieval pottery kiln waste had previously been recorded within the site boundaries, and further concentrations of pottery were observed in the backfilled pipeline easement, suggesting that pottery kiln(s) were located either within or adjacent to the site. The archaeologists concluded that, because of the circumstances, it was not possible say whether there had been archaeology on the site, but that any archaeology that did exist along the pipeline would have been heavily impacted by development groundworks.
