Description
Cotswold Archaeology undertook an archaeological evaluation of the route of the proposed Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme between July and December 2012. A total of 47 trenches were excavated in Dorset.
Trench 30 was located to the north of the proposed new Pimperne Pumping Station. It measured 30m by 1.8m. It was excavated across a linear negative geophysical anomaly (Anomaly 211) and a discrete positive anomaly (part of 212). Three pits (30002, 30004 and 30006) containing material of Early Neolithic date were found, one of which corresponded to the discrete positive geophysical anomaly. The linear negative anomaly was not indentified in the trench. [1] [2]
The record for this event has been created with support from Wessex Water.
