EDO5811 - Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme Geophysical Survey Areas G18 and G18B

Areas G18 and G18B form a detailed gradiometer survey area, part of the larger geophysical survey undertaken along the route of a new water supply main between the Wessex Water works at Corfe Mullen, Dorset to Camp Hill Storage Tank near Salisbury, Wiltshire. Probable archaeology was found in both areas G18 and G18B. Within area G18, a series of positive linear anomalies appear to form a roughly circular feature of probable archaeological origin within which are three discrete responses indicative of former cut features such as pits (Anomalies 273-274). In area G18B, three positive circular anomalies are evident in the southernmost field, possibly indicating prehistoric settlement activity (Anomalies 275-277). Possible archaeology is represented by positive linear and area responses across both areas G18 and G18B. These responses are indicative of former cut features and may be of possible archaeological origin associated with former ditches or pits (Anomalies 278-308). Several magnetic spikes are seen across area G18B and are probably associated with ferrous debris (Anomaly 309). The record for this event has been created with support from Wessex Water.
