Description

Observations made during excavaton of the bank at the southeast end of a new footbridge and two test pits to check the construction of the piers. No features or deposits of archaeological interest were identified. It appeared that most of the deposits exposed were associated with the construction of the original footbridge. Underlying deposits observed in all trenches consisted of redeposited natural clays, interpreted as the remnants of the original earthworks, and dumped clay and building debris from the landscaping of the gardens.
