Description

Excavations in advance of gravel extraction of part of an Iron Age hilltop settlement identified by earlier evaluation. An area of approximately 1000m2 was stripped of topsoil using a mechanical excavator with a toothless bucket. The area was cleaned and features and deposits planned and half-sectioned. Some features were fully excavated. Two circular post-built structures and numerous pits were recorded. Pottery from these features was of early Iron Age date.
