Description

When the Fleetsbridge flyover and roundabout was constructed around 1980 Ian Horsey, Archaeological Officer for Poole Borough was invited by the construction workers to examine the site. He reported that a fossilised tree had been found at some depth in a construction hole. It was too large to recover and does not seem to have been sampled. No further information is available. It may be part of a drowned forest probably relating to the rise in sea level after the last ice age c. 8000 BC. (K Jarvis)
