Description
Wessex Archaeology undertook a watching brief at Waterloo Farm during the laying of an underground electricity cable which crossed the park boundary bank of Gillingham Deer Park. In this location the bank had been removed. A ditch 4.3m wide and 0.9m deep with shallow straight sides and a slightly rounded base was observed. This is interpreted as part of the deer park boundary. It was filled with two layers of mixed topsoil and natural clay, suggesting recent disturbance or backfilling.
The record for this event has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water.
