Description
AC Archaeology was commissioned to carry out an assessment on the site of the proposed extension to 1 Church Lane in Blandford St Mary. The assessment consisted of the excavation of two test pits measuring 1m by 1m. The total area of the proposed extension is approximately 33m². The assessment gave a sample of about 6% of the total development area. Excavations were carried out by hand.
The majority of the finds were post eighteenth century, and only two pieces of medieval pottery were recovered. One prehistoric flint scraper was also found as a residual find. A chalk floor and wall foundation trench was discovered in context 14. No dateable artefacts were recovered, but a sherd of medieval pottery was found within the foundation trench.
