Description

AC Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation on land at Frome Whitfield, proposed for a Scout camp, and adjacent to the site of the Frome Whitfield deserted medieval village and church of St. Nicholas. A test pit was dug on a site proposed for construction of a cess pit. Pottery dating from the 12th to the 19th century was recovered, and a linear feature interpreted as a ditch recorded. The evaluation comprised of the manual excavation of two 1m² trial pits, around the location of the proposed cess pit. A small amount of medieval pottery was recovered from topsoil and ditch in Trial Pit 2.
