Description
An archaeological evaluation of earthworks, thought to be the remains of water meadow. Four trenches, comprising a 2% sample of the site, were dug by machine to the top of in situ archaeological deposits, or the top of the natural, depending which came first. One trench was 30m by 1.5m while the other three measured 10m by 1.5m.
Twelve sherds of medieval pottery and three sherds of post-medieval pottery were recovered from the evaluation, as were several sheep/goat animal bones. A total of 27 pieces of worked stone (flint and primarily chert). The only formal tool being a rough scraper.
The earthworks have been roughly dated as being post-medieval, however a monument of possible prehistoric date was discovered in trench 1, though too little of it was exposed for a proper attempt to identify it.
