Description

Terrain Archaeology carried out a second phase of archaeological evaluation of the former Pilkington Tiles Factory site, Shapwick Road, Hamworthy in 2000 to investigate the remainder of the area not evaluated previously. Four trenches (4-7) were dug by machine. This stage of evaluation identified a buried soil layer of probable Late Iron Age or Roman date in Trench 4. The other trenches were severely disturbed by the remains of the tile works and a saw mill.
