Description

In February 1974 workmen broke through the roof of a large culvert while laying pipes. A record was made by N H Field and R Jones. The arch of the culvert was composed of large sandstone blocks and, at the point where it was observed, ran across the road and parallel to the River Allen. It was interpreted as part of a mill race of eighteenth-century date. Stone and mortar samples were taken and deposited at the Priest's House Museum, Wimborne Minster. A sketch plan and section were given, with other papers, to the Dorset County Museum.
