Description
Recording of a stone-built cellar undertaken by the Shaftesbury and District Archaeological Group before pouring of concrete for a new building. It was possible to record only part of the cellar. The west wall had an archway 6ft wide and at least 2ft deep. The head of the archway was 4ft 2ins below present ground level, and it was filled with loose rubble. Part of a medieval floor tile was found. A cobbled surface, possibly a road, was recorded on the south side of the site, between 3 and 6ft below the ground surface.
