Description

Context One Archaeological Services were commissioned by Sherborne School to undertake a desk based assessment of the proposed development site for a new music room during 2007. The assessment concludes that the proposed development site is within an area of significant archaeological potential. The evidence suggests that there is reason to believe that archaeological remains may be present within the site, most probably associated with the medieval monastery, but also with a pre-Saxon religious settlement and post-medieval gardens. There is no unequivocal evidence that remains of prehistoric or Roman date should be anticipated. There is also cartographic evidence for a substantial fishpond witin the study area.
