Description
J D Copestake, an 3rd year undergraduate in Heritage Conservation at Bournemouth University conducted an evaluation of the Constable's house for an assignment during 1995. This included a site visit on 4/3/1995.
He concluded that better interpretation and display of information boards would highten public awareness of the site and its importance within the townscape. Long term monitoring of the site was also seen as important, particularly in regard to fluctuating ground moisture levels, control of vegetation and the splaying out of the walls. He also saw a need for any conservation management strategies relating to the site to be considered within the framework of the archaeological context. In other words the site must be considered holistically within the setting of the castle and other listed buildings on Castle Street (1).
