Description
AC Archaeology carried out an archaeological watching brief in October 1997 during groundworks to create a car park extension on land adjoining Hollands House, Poundbury Road, Dorchester.
Topsoil stripping revealed two large archaeological features, plus modern quarrying disturbance and localised areas of truncation. The two large features were not excavated. One was a curvilinear feature which contained a large quantity of flint knapping debris of probable Bronze Age date, plus a single sherd of prehistoric pottery. The other feature was a large subcircular pit which also contained some worked flint and a sherd of prehistoric pottery. The large size and character of these features may suggest they were Bronze Age quarry pits.
