Description

Wessex Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation and excavation along the line of the A37 Western Link road in advance of road construction, between Autumn 1987 to March 1988. Two shallow gullies were recorded in trench I, 1.2m apart, running parallel and 5m north of the present-day roadline. Neither contained artefacts, but their position and alignment suggests that they may represent flanking ditches of a Roman road lying under or to the north of the present road.
