Description

A rapid observation was made during re-surfacing work on the small courtyard area in front of Colliton House, by Steve Wallis. An area of about 10m by 10m had been stripped of c. 0.4m of overburden exposing natural chalk. Two linear features, one containing brick rubble, were noted and both were thought to be service trenches. A discrete feature was also seen, but this was thought to be no more than a patch of disturbed ground. The ground levels suggest that the area had been terraced, either when Colliton House was built or at some later stage in its development.
