Description

In September 1997 Wessex Archaeology undertook a watching brief on four machine-dug trenches dug as part of improvements to two WDDC car parks in Colliton Street. Very little time was available for the observations. Trench 2 was a rectangular trench about 3m long, 1m wide and 0.86m deep in the NW corner of the east car park. The trench was not excavated down on to the bedrock and the remains of a brick wall running E-W was visible in the base of the trench. No deposits earlier than the post-medieval period were exposed.
