Description

An archaeological statement was produced by Wessex Archaeology in 1998 in support of the Development Brief for the site. The archaeological statement summarised the previous archaeological discoveries on the site and assessed the significance of the surviving archaeological stratigraphy. The site contains significant archaeological deposits relating to the development, use and disuse of the Roman town of Durnovaria, well preserved beneath deep post-Roman soils. The remains of an important Neolithic post-built monument survive beneath the Roman remains.
