Description

A field survey was conducted on the site by J. Rigg. of the Ordnance Survey Archaeological Division on the 15 September 1954. His field notes are recorded on the OS record card as follows. [Numerous burials have been found in the vicinity of the Police Station, Weymouth Avenue, Dorchester]. They indicate a cemetery of simple graves flanking the Roman road to Radipole. No burials later than the 2nd century AD are known from this cemetery – all are inhumations. Five burials recently found in one was two 1st cent fibulae. One burial was in a stone cist, the remainder in cut out graves. The siting was confirmed by Supt Swatridge. The area is covered by a modern building. [1]
