EDO4650 - Colliton House, Dorchester: historic building survey 1997

P. Brebner conducted an Historic Building Survey of Colliton House, Dorchester during 1997 (1). The survey included a full photographic survey of the interior and exterior architectural features, a full trawl of published sources including photographs, paintings, maps, earlier surveys, historic documents and a transcription of the deeds of the property (1) (2). The house was built circa 1630, remodelled circa 1730, although it may retain some earlier walling to the south elevation. Architectural features include 17th century plank and muntins, 17th century plasterwork and good early 18th century detail including a fine stair. It is built mainly from Purbeck limestone with some 18th century brickwork additions (3).
