Description
Observations were recorded by the RCHM of exposures made in setting back the garden walls of Rowan House and Southfield House, South Walks Road, during 1960.
These exposures seemed to show natural chalk near the modern surface where the ditch of the Roman town defences could otherwise be expected. This may represent the site of the south gate of the Roman town, although the situation is complicated by civil war outworks.
