Description

C J S Green observed an exposure during 1965 under the pavement north of Rowan House, Dorchester. This exposure seemed to show natural chalk near the modern surface at a point where the defensive ditch of the Roman Town could be expected. It was suggested that this might indicate the site of the south gate of the town, although the position of Civil War outworks in this locale complicates the situation.
