Description
In 1885, during the removal of old foundations on the site of the new gaol, two stones were found cemented together. In a cavity between them there was a second brass of Domitian. This was found together with what appeared to be a piece of parchment which fell into dust on exposure to air. The coin was thought to date to c. AD93 and the finder (Mr. Hogg) suggested that this might mark the foundation date for the Roman fort thought at the time to be on this site.
This event may be the same as that recorded in EDO4992.
