Description
The Dorchester Roman Aqueduct was sectioned at three points by W. Miles Barnes in order to test the hypothesis put forward by Major Coates that this earthwork represented a Roman water supply to the Town of Durnovaria [2].
The channel of the Roman Aqueduct was exposed, but not excavated, by W. Miles Barnes in 1901, South of St.Mary's Church on the east side of Strap Bottom, Bradford Peverell [1].
The outer bank was cut through, showing the original slope of the hill, and the chalk thrown out of the channel by the Roman excavators [2].
