Description
In August 1951 a trench dug for a water main across the yard of the Police Barracks encountered the top of a brick structure at a depth of about a foot below the surface.
It was described by a foreman as a vault or tunnel of a single thickness of brick. It was left undamaged, although a single brick was removed temporarily and a sounding made to a depth of 12 feet.
The structure is believed to be aligned approximately with Weymouth Avenue. It was located approximately 18 yards from the southern corner of the main entrance in prolongation of the southern side of the entrance.
